Great news! The Intergenerational Speaker Series has received a New Horizons Seniors Program Grant which will allow us to offer a third year of the series. CALL has partnered with the Nursing Program at Mt. Royal University to offer a series of five lectures in the next year that will bring together older adults and university students to meet and engage in discussion. It will be a unique opportunity for learning and for forming new connections across generations. Over the coming year we will offer 5 events, each beginning with a guest speaker, a panel, a film … something to set the stage and provide a focus for a lively and informative discussion. Following a light lunch snack, we will meet in small intergenerational groups for a facilitated conversation. All the events will take place in the Lincoln Park Room of Mt. Royal University from 11 am to 1pm. Save the Date for 2024-2025: Other events in the series will be held at the same time and place on Watch the CALL newsletter for information about upcoming topics and speakers and link to the program website (www.mru.ca/igss) |
Age-Ful Inclusion: Embracing Generational and Cultural Diversity Our next IGSS event will explore the importance of age inclusivity, with a focus on connecting people from different generations and cultural backgrounds. We’ll delve into the value of intergenerational relationships and how diverse age groups, informed by their unique cultural experiences, can learn from and support one another. By examining the intersection of age and culture, we’ll challenge common misconceptions about age, while recognizing how cultural factors shape our perceptions of aging and generational roles. Through engaging discussions, we’ll uncover practical strategies for fostering meaningful connections across generations, celebrating cultural diversity, and creating inclusive environments where people of all ages feel valued, heard, and supported. Together, we’ll explore how to build bridges across age and cultural divides to ensure a truly inclusive society.
