Conflict is a Participant Sport

How do you feel during and after you have a conflict? Would you rather manage your conflicts well enough that you don't feel bad, guilty, or regretful? Join CALL member and conflict specialist, Dr. Deborah Sword, in workshops to develop your conflict competencies. You do conflict better when you know the actual problem, and are able to choose the conflict skills best suited to manage that issue.

In three interactive workshops, we’ll build on conflict competencies we already use, and apply the skills to real situations. Attend all three workshops for in-depth conflict competencies, or register for individual sessions.

Life on the Edge

This interactive event will introduce you to the lives of those Calgarians whose daily survival is a challenge. George Webber, a renowned photographer, befriended many of them and recorded their struggles with empathy and compassion. We will ask ourselves why they are where they are, and why implementing solutions seems to be such an intractable problem.

Dr. Kerri Treherne, a Calgary treasure of selfless compassion, works with these people every day and sees the slide into drug dependency, mental illness, and with frostbite and amputations in the winter. Also, the pressures and the consequences of being unseen by our society.

The solutions are both simple and complex; but known. Why is there no general political will to implement them? Help us to answer these questions.

Meet the presenters.

George Webber’s artful photographs spring from his affection for the people, culture and architecture of the Canadian West. His books include: Borrowed Time, Saskatchewan Book, Alberta Book, Badlands, Prairie Gothic, In this Place, Last Call, People of The Blood, A World Within and Requiem. George was elected to the Royal Canadian Academy of Arts in recognition of his contributions to the visual arts in Canada. More on his work can be found at The People, Culture and Architecture of the Canadian West.

Dr Kerri Treherne has been a family physician in Calgary for 30 years. Her main interest is serving vulnerable populations. She works at The Alex and CUPS Community Health Centers as well at the Calgary Drop-in Center. Kerri's works regularly with unhoused clients and clients with mental health concerns and addictions. She is able to address her clients basic needs and provide comprehensive care due to the support of her health care teams. She is an avid advocate of team-based care.
