INTGEN--Music Therapy: Tune into Wellness |
March is Music Therapy Awareness Month, making it the perfect opportunity to learn more about this allied health profession and how music is the ideal bridge between all ages. There is no other activity that activates more areas of the brain simultaneously than engaging with music that resonates with us. Quite simply, music infuses moments with meaning. On a more complex level, the different elements of music, such as tone, volume, and tempo, impact brain function and human behaviour - something music therapists know a lot about. Drawing from extensive research and real-life examples, this presentation unveils the hidden potential of music therapy in healthcare, education, work environments and home. Jennifer will demonstrate how music therapy can improve cognitive function, increase energy levels, and boost mood, showcasing music’s transformative impact on individuals ranging from two months to 104 years old. Facilitator: Jennifer Buchanan, MBA, MTA, is the Founder and President of JB Music Therapy, a company that has been instrumental in the implementation of hundreds of music therapy programs and who has been presenting to many education, government and corporate organizations throughout North America for over 3 decades. Jennifer Buchanan’s role extends beyond Calgary; she is the past President and former Executive Director of the Canadian Association of Music Therapists and a current Director at the National Music Centre. Her latest book, "Wellness, Wellplayed: The Power of a Playlist," highlights music’s capacity to strengthen mental health, memory, mobility and motivation. During this Workshop you will: • Learn about music therapy, its diverse applications, benefits, and outcomes for all ages. • Engage in mood, memory, and motivation-boosting music exercises • Top 8 ‘key’ tips for using music to accentuate the positive - including the power of a purposeful playlist to ignite more meaningful connection to self and others. |
