By Melody Lane, Chair CALL Volunteer Committee
As our ongoing commitment to recognize CALL volunteers, we are privileged to introduce the Communications Team. CALL is extremely fortunate to have a talented group which keeps us well informed about new and ongoing programs, upcoming events, and updates to policies and procedures. They are responsible for the always anticipated Newsletter featuring informative articles and displaying art and photography as well as work written by CALL members. The Communications Team is highly responsive when urgent requests such as eblasts are required outside normal Newsletter circulation. This accomplished team consistently and effectively delivers timely information to CALL members.
As a former teacher and administrator, Gail Kingwell is the dedicated leader of this team. Her experiences as an educator and her ability to communicate have contributed to her success in this role which she so graciously fulfills. Gail has been actively contributing to CALL since its inception.
With so many emails and the bombardment of information on the internet, Brenda Pfleger employs her art and design background to plan the design of the newsletter, attracting our attention. Brenda has been involved with advertising designs for other CALL groups and her creative work is always outstanding.
Edna Einsiedel has been humble about her contribution to this team but her background as an educator and an editor is a perfect fit. Eblasts play an enormous role in attracting volunteers to get involved and Edna participates in releasing the final product, making this a successful modality to recruit candidates.
In the spirit of lifelong learning, Maureen Osis joined the team after being introduced to social media by her grand-daughter. Maureen learned how to use Facebook and Instagram to provide information, education and often inspiration. CALL events are shared on Facebook and Twitter to inform members and also to bring awareness to the broader community. If you haven’t already, check it out!
The newsletter and eblasts are critical to the success of CALL events and we gratefully acknowledge and thank each member of the Communications Team for their time and commitment. You are all brilliant!
The CALL Newsletter group invites members to submit photos, sketches, stories, poems, descriptions of projects etc. for use in CALL newsletters. We know that CALL members are creative. Do you have a photo taken on your daily walk or from your window; a poem written as you reflect on life; a sketch of a scene that catches your eye? Have you turned a memory into a short story or a response to something you have heard or read?
We will keep all submissions on file to use in future newsletters. Send submissions to newsletter@calgarylifelonglearners.ca, include your name and a sentence giving CALL permission to publish in the newsletter.
The CALL Newsletter is our way to communicate what is going on in our community. It's a way to highlight events of interest, ‘peek behind the curtain of CALL’ and to give some general information about CALL groups and members.
You are invited to send your ideas and suggestions for future issues to newsletter@calgarylifelonglearners.ca. We reserve the right to edit submissions and to determine when submissions will be published.
CALL Newsletter dates for posting:
Meanwhile, be well, stay well in every sense of the word.
