The March CALL Café will feature two speakers with decades of experience observing and analyzing Alberta politics. In their presentations, Lisa Young and Graham Thomson will offer different approaches to understanding the choices that voters will be offered in the forthcoming provincial election.

Head to Head: Comparing the Policy Approach of the UCP and NDP

The 2023 election will be a contest between two parties that have distinctive policy stances on a range of issues, yet similarities on some others. This presentation will boil down the policy records and commitments of the two parties to compare and contrast their approaches to the delivery of public services, the role of Alberta in confederation, the status and regulation of the energy industry, and the importance of values like ‘freedom’ and ‘equality.’

Stranger than Fiction: Alberta Politics in 2023

Using analysis, anecdotes and good old-fashioned punditry, Graham will explain the state of Alberta politics: where we are; how we got here; and where we're going. In other words, he'll be trying his best to make order out of chaos.
