Dr. Yvonne Poitras Pratt
A Metis-led Response to the TRC Calls to Action
Dr. Poitras Pratt is a Metis scholar who has devoted several years working with the Fishing Lake Metis Settlement on a collection of 19 digital stories that collectively represent the authentic voices and contemporary lived experiences of the Metis people in Alberta. Her ethnographic exploration of this journey was recently published by Routledge Press in "Digital storytelling in Indigenous education: A decolonizing journey for a Metis community." This presentation includes Dr. Poitras Pratt's present-day efforts to support the work of Metis people through her role on the Alberta Metis Education Council and will also introduce attendees to a graduate pathway program as her own response to the Truth and Reconciliation Commission's 94 Calls to Action.
