The Soul Seekers Book Club

A Soul Seeker can be described as someone in pursuit of deeper meaning, truth, or a connection with the divine. With this in mind, we will be exploring the Inner Journey through the lens of Depth Psychology.

Depth Psychology delves into the unconscious aspects of the human psyche—seeking to uncover the hidden forces that influence our behaviours, emotions, and experiences. It encourages integration and healing through self-awareness and conscious engagement with the unconscious. This field examines how repressed or suppressed memories and patterns affect our daily lives, while offering a path toward personal growth and transformation.

Rooted in the foundational work of Sigmund Freud, Carl Jung, and Alfred Adler, Depth Psychology has evolved through the insights of contemporary thinkers such as James Hollis, Bud Harris, Murray Stein, Marion Woodman, James Hillman, and others.

Please note that this Book Club is not a religious group or a therapy circle, but rather a spiritual discussion group. Our aim is to deepen our understanding of this rich and meaningful subject through thoughtful conversation. Participants are encouraged to complete the assigned readings or listenings in preparation for each meeting.

Our first book selection is The Inner Work of Age: Shifting from Role to Soul by Connie Zweig, PhD.

Suggested listening: Search for James Hollis lectures on YouTube.
Suggested reading: Becoming Whole: A Jungian Guide to Individuation by Bud Harris, PhD.

I hope you’ll join us on this journey inward.   It is my hope that by reading and discussing these books (or podcasts), you too will uncover something valuable about the inner journey - something that enriches your own life.

When: Wednesdays
Time: 1 - 3 PM
Dates: Sep 10, 24, October 8, 22, Nov 5, 19, Dec 3, 17
Where: Rosedale Community Centre, 901 11 Ave NW

Marg was a reluctant business professional, golden-handcuffed by the trajectory of life. In the latter part of her career in medical sales, she had the opportunity to work closely with psychiatrists—a role she found deeply engaging. The exploration of the inner world resonated with her in an unexpected and meaningful way.

During this time, she joined the board of the Calgary Jung Society and soon became Vice President of Programming, a position she held for six years. She had found her tribe. Through the insights of depth psychology—and the self-discovery it invited—she began to navigate life with greater peace and purpose.
