Touring South Africa on Motorcycles CANCELLED

Since meeting each other in 2005 and subsequently retiring, Rita McGillivray and Rolf Stuber have been happily pursuing their joint passion for adventure travel around the world. Rolf’s serious dedication to long distance motorbike touring and Rita’s inexplicable willingness to sit on the back and hold on, along with a love of trekking has led the two of them to all seven continents.

For the treks and travels talk in February, We are happy to share their photos and memories of a multi-week exploration of the countries of Southern Africa.   We started at Victoria Falls ,Zimbabwe where we joined a small , guided motorcycle tour out of Germany .    For 17 days we would be riding some of the most challenging roads that Rolf has had to tackle out of the roughly 300,000 km’s he’s ridden since being a senior.

Join us as we share photos and commentary on our 4,000 km tour from Zimbabwe, through the Chobe National Park in Botswana and then into the world-famous Okavango Delta where an early morning flight rewarded us with amazing vistas followed by a safari in the Moreni game with nonstop wildlife viewing. A long and exhausting ride across the Kalahari desert brought us into Namibia where we would cross the Tropic of Capricorn, play in the famous red dunes of Sossusvlei  and head to the heart of the Namib desert.

We finally entered South Africa in the Western Cape province during wildflower season, and once we exchanged the motorbike for a car, we settled in for a couple weeks of home exchanges near Cape town and explored the beautiful South African coastline, the vineyards, the dazzling mother city -Capetown ,the sobering Robben Island where Nelson Mandela was incarcerated, drove round the Cape of Good hope, and visited the most  geographically southern point on the continent of Africa, Cape Agulhas.
