Buddhism: What You Always Wanted to Ask
Buddhism has gained some visibility in the Western world over the last decades. The Beatniks were influenced by some of the strands of this multi-faceted religion. Mindfullness meditation originated as a Buddhist method to enhance our awareness of how and why we react to the impulses coming from the outside and from within our own mind but now it has become a major method of stress reduction.
In these sessions we will ask basic questions about Buddhism. The members of this group will determine and shape to a large degree its structure and content. Discussions will be guided by Eva Neumaier. During the first hour she will provide basic historical facts, an outline of the principal concepts and a survey of the branching of the traditions. The second hour will be dedicated to discussion and questions pertinent to our understanding of Buddhism.
Facilitator: Eva Neumaier has taught Eastern Religions in general and Buddhism in particular at the University of Calgary and the University of Alberta.
