Film Noir 2020
Film Noir 2020 is the third instalment of the highly popular Film Noir Movie Series launched at the Globe Cinema in winter 2018. Film Noir is a term that describes American B&W films made in the 1940s and 1950s that deal with sex, murder, and money.
Among the films under consideration for this installment are The Third Man(1949), a British film noir, two films starring Humphrey Bogart (The Big Sleep, In a Lonely Place) and films by directors Michael Curtiz and Alfred Hitchcock. The films are open to the public. If time permits the facilitator will lead a discussion after the screening.
CALL members who sign up for this interest group will receive an email with the dates and films we will be viewing as well as an email before each screening with suggested readings about the film.
The films are screened at the Globe Cinema on $5 Tuesdays (7 p.m. screening). Specific dates are January 7, January 14, January 21, January 28, February 4 and February 11, 2020. Six films in total will be shown.
The Globe Cinema is located at 617 8th Avenue SW, between 5th and 6th Streets. There is both on-street parking and a Calgary Parking Authority Parkade nearby.
The minimum registration is 25 and the maximum is 100. There is no waiting list.
