Vikings Victorious

Due to popular demand, the four April sessions are going to be repeated in May. Register soon so you won't be disappointed.

A result, often forgotten in medieval history, is that in the end the Vikings won. Eventually they conquered all of England. During the eleventh century, four kings of England were in fact Vikings: Sweyn Forkbeard 1013-1014, Cnut 1016- 1035, Harold Harefoot 1037-1040, and Harthacnut 1040-1042. In this study program Dr. Alana Gowdy will examine the wide impact of these Norse invaders on medieval British history. As has been said, "In a casually brutal age, Vikings were simply better brutes." (Quote from Priit Vesili) Fear not however, despite their well-deserved reputation, a somewhat lighthearted approach will be taken to the overview of Viking attitudes and actions.

Vikings are very much ‘the flavour of the month’ in medieval history. New books appear on a very regular basis. Check in with your favourite bookstore.
