A Photo Workshop in Patagonia
Presenter: Michael Perkins
In
April of 2017 Mike attended a Photo Workshop in Patagonia. Both Chile
and the Argentine portions were visited. The trip was designed not only
to visit some spectacular sites but to improve the participants
understanding and abilities with regards to landscape photography in
some challenging conditions. We shot from pre-dawn to late night to
capture the mountains at as many light conditions that we could. In
Chile we visited the Torres del Paine National Park, and stayed in a
lodge just outside the park boundary. The mist on the river and the
early morning light on the peaks was spectacular and the dawn colours
were well worth getting out of bed for, despite the cold mornings. One
highlight, which will be illustrated, was a sunset over the massif, with
its reflection in the still waters of a mountain lake.
In
Argentina we photographed the area around Mount Fitzroy and Cerro
Torres, culminating, for some of the hardy ones, in a hike to the lake
and ice sheet at the base of Cerro Torres where we camped for three
days. A one day side trip to the Perito Moreno Glacier provided some
exciting photo opportunities including a glacier calving. This one hour
presentation will attempt to illustrate and highlight all the wonderful
scenery of the region.
