This Interest Group is designed for those who have already taken "A Look at Islam". "Islam 201" will be applying the theoretical/historical knowledge acquired in "A Look at Islam" to studying how Islamic beliefs and practices play out in contemporary lives. Topics will be decided on by participants and will include subjects such as: Islam and women; Islam and culture; media-inflated topics of the day; and Islamic spirituality and ethics. There will be guest speakers from different Islamic sects as well.

Joud Shafiq has a Ph D in the area of molecular genetics, a higher diploma in Islamic studies and a masters in comparative religions. She taught in both areas of religion and science and is currently an instructor at U of C Continuing Education.
