China has one of the most mobile populations in the world: estimates indicate that the number of Chinese living outside its borders by 2030 will be over 52 million, a movement that is shaping cultures, economies and politics throughout the globe, particularly in the context of China’s growing international influence.
Dr. Lloyd Wongan Associate Professor of Sociology at the University of Calgary whospecializes in the topics of race and ethnicity, immigration, and globalization and development. He has recently edited a book onTrans-Pacific Mobilities: The Chinese and Canada(2017), andwill discussthis movement of people as it relates to Canada—currently the second most popular destination for Chinese migrants.
