Bayeux Tapistry
Medieval History: Knights and Needlework
It has been said that there is only one aspect of the Battle of Hastings on which historians agree - the Normans won!
This course will provide a background to England in the decades prior to 1066.
Then, having looked at the battles of that tumultuous year, we will delve into the mystery and adventure surrounding the making and incredible survival of the Bayeux Tapestry.
Presenter – Dr. Alana Gowdy
Coming to Canada from Northern Ireland, Alana has taught at a range of levels, from elementary to university. Having completed her masters and doctoral degrees as a single parent, she then developed an active career as a research consultant. However, on retirement Alana decided that learning and teaching for fun was the way to go. Expanding her long-time interest in medieval history, she began to offer history courses, loosely described as a romp through centuries of murder and mayhem. Alana is pleased to be part of CALL, both as a learner and a teacher, and believes that the best adult learning is firmly grounded in shared enjoyment.
