PROGRAMS MAIN PAGE

CALL’s initial programs began in Fall 2011. Registrations are limited and are accepted on a first-received, first-served basis.

WHAT’S IN STORE FOR 2013?

As a CALL member, have you been wondering what’s in store for the new year?

The CALL website has the latest information on interest groups that started in the Fall and some new ones just created. The new year is a great time to carry on in the groups you’ve already joined and to try out some different and new ones too.

The very popular Treks and Travels and CALL Café continues every month through to June.

New Interest Groups include: A Taste of the Camino, Living Your best Healthy Lifestyle, Orienteering – An Introduction, Orienteering – Beyond the Basics, and Seniors Housing: Exploring Alternatives.

Please note that if you are planning on continuing in the interest groups you joined in the Fall, you do NOT need to register for them again. However you should make sure your facilitator knows whether or not you are planning to continue in the group.

Almost all continuing groups, and all the new interest groups have room for new members, so plan on exploring some new subjects and experiences. Explore Calgary with the Urban Hiking Group, discover Opera, or take part in stimulating discussions.

PROGRAM FORMATS

Interest Groups (listed below)–Together, members and facilitators determine the subject matter, timing, location and the duration of interest groups. With this new decentralized approach, participants have greater say. CALL members now register directly with the interest group’s facilitator. And there are no registration fees: the annual CALL membership fee includes participation in any and all CALL interest groups, lecture series, and monthly get-togethers. For more on how interest groups work, click here. For resources and descriptions of the roles of interest group facilitators and interest area coordinators, click here.

Lecture Series–CALL offers both its own Lecture Series and others in partnership with organizations such as Mount Royal University and Calgary Public Library. Current series are Treks and Travels and the Somar Speakers Series.

CALL Cafés–monthly get-togethers where members can socialize, learn about and sign up for interest groups, propose new interest groups, and have a short, stimulating program ( a speaker, or some other sort of participatory event)

INTEREST GROUP FACILITATORS NEEDED

It’s not difficult to facilitate an interest group. You don’t need to be an expert on the subject. You just need to have an interest. You may want to co-facilitate a group with a friend, a partner or a colleague. CALL helps by providing an Orientation Session and ongoing support for new facilitators. Facilitating is fun, satisfying, a learning experience, and an opportunity to meet people who share your interest or passion – exactly why you joined CALL.

Members are  encouraged to discuss their ideas for possible interest groups with one of the Interest Area Coordinators. If you would like to propose a topic for a new program or interest group or become a facilitator, please e-mail the Interest Area Coordinator (see above) or program@calgarylifelonglearners.ca. You can also propose a new interest group verbally at a monthly CALL Café.
